Thanksgiving – Chocolate Pecan Pie

My favorite Thanksgiving dessert.

Chocolate Pecan Pie

Crust – Buy One!

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • nuts – can spice nuts…
  • 2 TB flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 4 tb butter – melted
  • 2 TB Bourbon – optional –

Par bake crust about 10 – 15 minutes at 400 degrees

Reduce oven to 375

chop one cup of nuts and toss with chips and 3 TB flour and place in bottom of pie crust.

Combine eggs, sugar, brown sugar, syrup, vanilla salt, butter and one TB flour.  (If using, add bourbon as well.)  Pour this mixture into the shell over the chocolate nut mixture.

Arrange one cup of nuts in a nice design on top of filling.

Bake 45 minutes to one hour until nicely browned and set.

Spiced Nuts

For an interesting twist, you can spice some nuts for an added twist.  I did this in my taste test and received hesitant compliments…perhaps because the spice was unexpected or it was not good…I liked it so hard to say…

  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp each of Cayenne, cinnamon, Nutmeg & ground rosemary
  • 2 cups pecans
  • 2 TB butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Mix spices and sugar in a bowl

Toast nuts over medium heat in pan, stirring occasionally.  Toast for 4 minutes

Add butter and stir until melted

Add spice & Sugar mixture

Stir mix until coated in spice and sugar has melted.

Transfer to spearate pan and cool.
Giving Thanks
