Adventure Town

Queenstown New Zealand is adventure town of the universe.  Anything you want to do or throw yourself off of, this is pretty much where it was invented.

Exciting video below of our wild adventure!

Being crazy adventure people, Amber and I were excited to get to this city.  I mean, Bungy, Skydiving, Bungy Swings, Zorbing, Bungy where you sit in a chair and someone kicks you off a bridge, Cart Luging, Jet Boat, Heli-Skiing, Canyoning, Zip Line Treking, White Water Rafting, Rock Climbing and Indoor Mini Golf all in the same place.  Unfortunately, two things occurred during our time in Queenstown which prevented us from doing all of the activities on our list.

  1. Rain
  2. Queenstown Flu – G.C. was sick for the first time in about as long as I can remember – Thankfully it was only one day.  (We learned that since Queenstown is such a tourist draw from every corner of the globe and such a compact area – most flus and viruses from around the globe get here.  So its easy to pick one up and as a local, its easy to build a strong immunity.  Unfortunately, I picked one up.)

In the end we had to forego the 15,000 foot sky dive and being kicked out of chair off a bridge with bungy attached.  We even passed on the indoor mini-golf…which was because it was 20 dollars per person.  We learned very quickly that New Zealand would not be cheap.  For example, our first meal was 75 US Dollars.  For this we recieved a burrito, 2 enchiladas, guacamole appetizer, one beer and one margarita. (Yep, barely 24 hours in and we ate Mexican…) Our first meal didn’t have us too worried as for 50 USD we had one bottle of wine, a Broccoli gratin, House baked foccacia with pepper pesto and white bean puree as well as a tasting of New Zealand Manchego cheese with tamarind chutney. Pretty awesome lunch.  Anyway, it is not cheap and for reference on adventure activities, that 15,000 foot skydive is around 600 bucks and a jet boat, which it seems everyone does, is 100 per person.

Aside from the fact that in reality I have little interest in throwing myself out of a plane or paying 100 bucks to get soaking wet in a boat that goes 50 miles per hour next to canyon walls in 40 degree temperatures, these were just a bit out of our budget.  And we decided it would be best to eat during the remainder of our trip rather than splurge on a near death experience.

What was in budget was the cart luge and zip line trekking.

Cart Luge was just good clean fun and if it hadn’t of been 30 degrees and snowing, I could have done this all day.

Zip trekking we did in the rain and cold and it was awesome.  I had never zip lined before and it was a wonderfully exciting, freeing and relaxing experience all at the same time.  The views were incredible even with the rain and clouds.   And it was a bit extreme, our last run is the steepest, highest and fastest zip in the world where we reached speeds a little over 70 Kilometers per hour.

Aside from all of the adventure options and even with the poor weather and the powerfully cleansing Queenstown bug, Queenstown is wonderful city and worth a visit.  Every restaurant was wonderful.  The shopping is fantastic and like all of the New Zealander’s we have encountered so far – the people are wonderful.

If you are in to adventure – budget properly and go to Queenstown.  If you love beautiful towns with awe-inspiring views in every direction – We recommended Queenstown.  If you love wonderful people and diversity of tourists – which makes things interesting in the bars… – Queenstown is the place and one we agree we need to visit again.
