Mise En Place

Mise En Place – A chefs way of saying preparation – like having onions, carrots and celery at the ready to knock out a stock or sauce.  In the travel sense, Mise En Place is my gear.  Everything I’ve prepared to bring to travel through conditions like the beaches of Thailand to Siberia in late November.

Chicken Pot Pie “Gear”

Here is the ubiquitious travel bloggers gear list.  Let me know what you think.  I’m guessing I’ll be sending a few things back with my sister after New Zealand but we will see.  (I tend to think I’m a good packer who probably has overpacked a little.)

Clothing

Well, I should probably be asking Kuhl clothing if they would like to advertise on my site.  I ordered a shirt and pants as a test and liked them so much, I’m traveling with 2 pairs of their pants and 4 shirts.  They pack so tight and are quite light I can justify the quantity. (I don’t mind a little variety in clothing either.) Other than this, because this trip will cover the cooler shoulder season in NZ, Siberia in November, Thailand beaches and the Virgin Islands, I do have cold and warm weather gear.

List below just highlights the major stuff –

Kuhl Pants & Shirts

Under Armour Base Layer

Birkenstock Sandal

Merrell Men’s Barefoot Trail Glove – these are AWESOME

Technology

Went a little nuts on this list with new “stuff”.  First, I’m now a Mactard.  Second, impulse bought a go pro because “it’s tiny enough to justify”…and I like to think I’ll take a cool movie or two on the road. I love pictures and perfer Nikon gear…and my Nikon does video, which made the go pro harder to justify but I bought it anyway.  Because my world of possessions is now essentially what I carry on my back I have done my best to purchase the best to hopefully limit issues while away.  Going to be fun to see if the research time spent and spending a little more money at times for quality will pay off.

Nikon D7000

GoPro HD HERO2: Outdoor Edition

Apple MacBook Air

Motorola Droid 3 – I like having a keyboard and this one is really easy on Sim Card removal…otherwise, not a huge fan of this phone

iPods – my first iPod.  Seriously.  Just got it in June.

Kindle

X-Mini II Capsule Speaker (Black)

Other Gear

Day pack – Pacsafe

Backpack – older Dueter

Money & Finance

Yes, I think there is such a thing as money and finance gear. Here is what I use to cut unneeded fees from banking while spending overseas.

Marriott Premier Credit Card from Chase – This is a holdover from my days a business traveler.  Get a few points for a nice, free night on occasion and there are no foreign transaction fees.

Charles Schwab Checking – No fees for ATM use, anywhere in the world.

That’s it. Simple, no fees and both companies have easy to use websites, bill pay etc…so pay a credit card once a month and balance one check book.
